Biodata: Karla Alvarado Romero is a doctoral student at Heidelberg University in Germany as a member of the HCIAS Doctoral Research Group Communication and Society in Ibero-America. She is a scholarship holder of the Landesgraduiertenförderungsprogramm of the state of Baden-Württemberg.
Karla Alvarado holds bachelors and masters degrees in international relations from the National Autonomous University of México (UNAM). She has experience working for the Mexican government, the Organization of the American States in Panama and Rice University in Houston. In 2019 she performed a research stay at Rice University's Baker Institute for Public Policy US-Mexico Center holding a scholarship for Graduate Studies from the Mexican Council of Science and Technology (CONACYT).
In 2021 she received the Best Master's Thesis Award from the Center for Research on North America (CISAN-UNAM) and, subsequently, completed a research stay at the Center for China-Mexico Studies (CECHIMEX) at the Faculty of Economics of UNAM as part of the China Research Fellowship Program 2022.
She has participated in international conferences in Mexico, Romania, Australia (virtually), and Finland, and she has been published in a journal and has had two book chapters and several blogs published. Karla volunteers for the International Association for Political Science Students (IAPSS) as Latin America and the Caribbean Chair and is the founder and president of IAPSS Mexico.
Her research interests include digital trade, regional economic integration, transpacific trade networks, the triangular relations between Latin America and China/United States/European Union, gender studies, technology, social media, women in cybersecurity, and human rights. Her doctoral research project is supervised by HCIAS Jun.-Prof. Dr. Alejandro Ecker.
